An Interview with Aquila

09 / 09 / 21

Quality jewellery doesn’t need to cost the earth. We spoke to Stacey – founder of Aquila Jewellery – about the inspirations behind her unique collection of handmade jewellery.

It’s great to have you on the Lane, Stacey! Please introduce yourself for anyone who might not know about Aquila Jewellery…

Hello, my name is Stacey and I am the Founder of Aquila Jewellery; a story of travel meets unique, handmade jewellery. Aquila became an ongoing part of the quirky, vibrant Dukes Lane in April, with the intention of bridging a gap between high street costume jewellery and premium jewellers.

How is your jewellery made?

From mixed metal rings, bracelets and pendants, to hoops, studs and toe rings, everything you see in the shop is handmade in small batches, using quality materials and recycled silver where possible. There is no nickel, chromium, lead or brass in my jewellery, which means it is kind to sensitive skin.

Where do you get your inspiration from and what do you want people to feel when they visit Aquila Jewellery?

During my travels a few years ago, I stumbled across a group of silversmiths and their families working together to produce jewellery for a local market. They were using a traditional Indonesian technique called Jawan, which I soon grew to adore. Each collection in the range is inspired by a place that I have visited or lived in, which has led to an emotional connection, something I hope others that visit the shop can relate to with their own travel memories!
